About the Curriculum

New York Medical College's School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Curriculum provides an opportunity for residents and students to work with clinicians in elementary school and middle-school SBHC's to learn the benefits of providing preventive and acute illness care in a community-based setting and to develop a deeper understanding of several aspects of child health:  the impact of culture on health and health care; risk assessment and risk-reduction counseling in pre-adolescents and adolescents; nutritional assessment and counseling in adolescence; school-based asthma programs; and mental illness in elementary and middle-school children.  The curriculum is being developed and implemented with funding from the New York State Department of Health.

This project is a collaboration between the New York Medical College Department of Family Medicine and the Center for Primary Care Education and Research, and St Joseph's Medical Center and its YonkerSpectrum Program
