Books and Articles the Library Does Not Own |
|
| |
| When
the Library does not own the book, article or other material you need,
you can order it through the Library's Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Department.
An ILL form must be filled out and submitted to the ILL Department via
ILLIAD. When the item you have ordered arrives, the ILL Department will

 |
| How
do I order a book, book chapter, article, or other material the Library
does not own? |
|
To
order material that the Library does not own, you must first register
with ILLiad, the Library's electronic request system. |
| |
After
you have registered, to order an item you must go to the ILLiad
Logon Screen and logon. Once your barcode and password have been verified
you will be presented with an ILLiad menu listing different types of requests
and forms. To order an article, click on "Request a Copy."
A form, once filled out and submitted, will be sent electronically to
the Health Sciences Library and processed. The cost of a copy is $3 prepaid.
For future use, note the user name and password you have chosen.
|
| |
Before
ordering an item always double check to make sure that the Library does
not already own it. The best method for determining whether
the Library owns a particular book, journal, video tape, or other material,
is to look it up in the NYMCat (Online Catalog). See the tip
sheet on how to use.. |
| |
You
can also ask a Reference Librarian to help you determine whether the Library
owns a particular item. Call the Reference Desk (914) 594-4210, or use
the Ask a Librarian
online reference service. |
| |
Please
note: When filling out an ILLiad request form, the more information you
can provide about the material you are seeking the more easily the item
can be ordered, and the more quickly you will receive it. |
| |
 |
| What will it cost to order a book, article or other item? |
| |
All requests are charged $3.00 per item and you will need to provide
a method of payment, (Visa, Master Card, NYMC Grant, check or cash). We
do not accept American Express. If you do not provide a method of payment,
your order will be cancelled.
All material ordered from other libraries is subsidized by the Health
Sciences Library; however, if applicable, you are responsible for any
copyright fees above the amount subsidized by the library. |
| |
 |
| What does a subsidy mean? |
| |
The $3.00 fee HSL charges is much less than the actual cost of an item since interlibrary transactions may range from $11.00 to $35.00 including any copyright fee. The HSL subsidizes or pays the remainder of the cost above the $3.00 you pay. |

If the Illiad request form is submitted after 1 PM, then the item will
usually arrive by 12 PM (noon) the following day. |

| |
