Advanced PowerPoint -- Wednesday December 20, 10:00 -- 11:30 AM; Friday February 23, 10:00 AM -- 11:30 AM
Participants will learn how appropriately use advanced PowerPoint techniques including: animation schemes, insertion of movies & sounds, pointer options, and more. Additionally, scanning of photos and slides will also be included. Basic knowledge of PowerPoint is recommended.
Evidence-Based Health Care Resources  -- Please call the Reference Desk at 914-594-4210 for a tutorial session.
This class covers the basic principles of EBHC and focuses on the array of information resources available at the Health Sciences Library specifically geared toward finding the best evidence in the literature to answer clinical questions.  Resources covered include: The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Clinical Evidence, and ACP Journal Club, DARE, and special Internet resources, as well as special PubMed techniques used to locate evidence based studies.
Getting the Most Out of Scopus -- Please call the Reference Desk at 914-594-4210 for a tutorial session
  Scopus, produced by Elsevier, is the world’s “largest abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources”. During this class attendees will use the unique Scopus interface to search for scientific article and web resources, to limit search results, to find cited references and most-cited articles, to link to full-text articles, and to set up personalized search and citation alerts.

Participants will gain a fundamental knowledge of the various resources and services available in the Health Sciences Library
 Intro. to Health Sciences Library Pt 2  -- Tuesday January 23, 2:00--3:00 PM; Thursday February 15, 2:00 -- 3:00 PM; Tuesday March 27, 2:00--3:00 PM.
  The Health Sciences Library offers a wide variety of electronic resources containing textbooks, journal articles, and newspaper articles, as well as links to electronic journals. The class provides an overview of these resources, describing format, content, location, and off-campus access, and then explores several of the resources in greater detail. Intro. to HSL Resources Pt.1 not required

This class will show users simple techniques using PowerPoint to create professional looking posters for conferences, meetings, etc
PowerPoint the Basics -- Friday December 15, 10:00 -- 11:30 AM; Friday January 19, 10:00 AM -- 11:30 AM; Friday February 09, 10:00 AM -- 11:30 AM; Friday March 23, 10:00 AM
Learn simple techniques such as, insert images or Word & Excel data onto slides, select appropriate slide quickly your slides and more!
PubMed -- Friday December 8, 2:30 -- 3:30 PM; Tuesday January 09, 2:00 -- 3:00 PM; Friday February 02, 1:00 PM -- 2:00 PM
This class covers the features and search techniques available for searching NLM's web-based version of MEDLINE, PubMed. Included are the unique search features, how to perform simple and complex searches, how to use limits to narrow a search, as well as how to save and print a search strategy.  Also discussed is the use of PubMed Linkout which allows users to link from the search results to full-text articles.

RefWorks is a web-based bibliographic and database manager, similar to EndNote and Reference Manager. Refworks is available free to all NYMC students and faculty and is accessible both on and off-campus. In this class participants will learn how to create a database, import references from online databases such as PubMed and insert and format citations into documents such as theses.

CINAHL, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, is a web-based database that includes physical therapy, speech pathology and allied health journals not available in MEDLINE. The class demonstrates efficient search techniques, including how to search for authors, keywords and subjects.

All classes will be held in the Medical Education Center, Library Room 108.
